Liverpool vs. AC Milan

The 2007 Champions League Final is set: Liverpool will play AC Milan in Athens, Greece. This year’s game is a rematch of the 2005 Champions League Final where Liverpool came back from a 3-0 deficit to win on penalty kicks. AC Milan scored in the first minute of the game, and took a 3-0 advantage into half-time. However, Liverpool fought back in the second half and scored three goals. During the overtime neither team scored, and the teams were forced to go to penalty kicks where Liverpool dominated.

The 2005 AC Milan squad was arguably one of the best teams of all time and their roster featured superstars such as Kaka, Cafu, Andriy Shevchenko, Hernan Crespo, Alessandro Nesta, Gennaro Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf, Andrea Pirlo, Paolo Maldini, Serginho, Rui Costa, and Dida. The resilient Liverpool team was lead by Steven Gerrard, Djibril Cissé, Xabi Alonso, Luis García, Vladimír Šmicer, John Arne Riise, and Jerzy Dudek.

It could be argued that Liverpool’s comeback was the greatest comeback in the history of sports. The Reds were down by three goals against a heavily-favored squad, and they managed to even the score in the second half — it only took them 15 minutes.

Nonetheless, AC Milan will be looking for revenge while Liverpool will try to capture their 6th Champions League crown.
