Social Survival

One of the universal needs of humans is the need for companionship and social contact. In Europe and South America, people satisfy their social needs by congregating at the town plaza. The United States is notorious for its lack of the traditional plaza. Consequently, Americans have created new social arrangements to satisfy their need for interaction. The Internet is the new tool for communication, and chat rooms, dating websites, and personal blogs are the new social networks. The World Wide Web allows people from all corners of the world to communicate with a click of a button, and users are free to discuss any topic imaginable. However, one wonders how long can we survive without face-to-face interaction? Will the public plaza emerge as the answer to our problems? Or will we continue inventing new methods of communication?
