Community Gardens

Community gardens are excellent cornerstones for neighborhoods because these gardens provide green space and opportunities for social gatherings, education and recreation.

Community gardens allow residents to develop sustainable lifestyles, acquire important life skills, and protect themselves from flood disasters. These gardens are usually maintained by neighborhood residents and businesses, and the harvested produce is often used to feed families and support local restaurants. The gardens also collect stormwater runoff and reduce flood risks.

Once neighborhood residents recognize the importance of community gardens, they often embrace their civic responsibilities and develop active roles in their neighborhood.
