Charlottesville Police Video of Wheelchair Accident

This story is a little old, but I wanted to share it because it’s so crazy. In December 2007, local artist Gerry Mitchell was knocked out of his wheelchair by a police cruiser when he attempted to cross the road at West Main and 4th Street in Charlottesville. This video clip was taken from the police cruiser’s on board camera, and it shows that the officer was unaware of Mitchell’s presence. Mitchell was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and the police officer followed him to the hospital to give him a ticket for jaywalking. Talk about adding insult to injury…

I haven’t heard any updates about this story, but I’ll be sure to post anything that I find.
