New James Madison Statue

Yesterday, James Madison University unveiled its second statue of James Madison in front of the Integrated Science and Technology (ISAT) building. The 10-foot-tall bronze is twice as tall as the former president, and it is visible from Interstate 81. The new statue is the second of Mr. Madison as there is a life-like 5’2″ statute near the Quad.

Local residents Bruce and Lois Forbes donated the statute to JMU in celebration of the University’s 100th birthday. The Forbes also announced that they would be donating $5 million for the new Center for the Performing Arts opposite of the Quad on Main Street.

One could say that the 10 foot statue is a sign that the University is on the cusp of a major growth spurt. Let’s hope that we don’t get too big for our britches.

I am James P. Corbin. My Grandfather, James Madison Corbin, came from some place in Virginia. I know he had a brother there somewhere. I was told that The brothers son had something to do with the Air Corps. My Grandfather died in Aurora Illinois in 1921. Age 52. I wondered if there might be a connection?
