Blackle has all of the same features as Google’s search engine, but it utilizes a black screen. The basic premise behind Blackle is that it takes more energy to display a white screen than a black one. Thus, if we all used Blackle instead of Google we would conserve energy.

This theory seems very reasonable; however, Google recently disproved this theory because over 75% of all computer monitors are now LCDs (not cathode ray tubes) and most LCD monitors actually use more energy to show black pixels than white. Check out the results from Techlogg.
